Three of the ten new compactor trucks brought in for the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) hit the streets yesterday as the state agency continues its battle with mounting garbage pile-ups.
And according to the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), the remainder should be on the road by early next week.
The large, all-white compactors have been retrofitted for Barbados’ roads and were dispatched to areas in St Philip, Vauxhall and Warners Park in Christ Church, and in parts of St Michael such as Pebbles Beach where one of them was used to assist the National Conservation Commission in clearing garbage from the beach.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall reported positive discussions with the SSA after a meeting yesterday to iron out some of the prevailing issues relating to the new trucks. (CA)
