DEAR CHRISTINE – We should help one another

Dear Christine,
In these hard economic times, I’d like to encourage Barbadians to become more of their brother’s keeper.
These are days when we should look out for each other and seek to help each other in whatever way we can.
From time to time I see individuals write to you asking for help. I am sure that some readers respond to these needs, but I am thinking that if more persons would literally look out for their family members, their neighbours and live in harmony, you would receive fewer letters from readers requesting help.
If we say we live in a Christian community, why aren’t we expressing the love of Christ to our neighbours?
We may know that he or she has fallen on hard times, yet we turn our heads the other way and do nothing but criticise and try to determine all the reasons why such individuals are experiencing tough times.
What we should do is lend a helping hand. We become like Job’s friends in the Bible – blame Job for his downfall, when it was God Himself putting Job to the test.
Let’s truly love each other and determine in our hearts to help one another. – MB

Dear MB,
When I receive letters like yours I cannot add anything to them. Your letter speaks for itself. Thanks for your thoughtfulness and, like you, I hope more individuals will be their brother’s keeper.
– CHRISTINE
