A record-breaking performance by Jack Kirby led St Winifred’s to a repeat victory in the boys’ section and the overall title of the Purity Primary Inter-Schools swimming championships when the finals were held at the Aquatic Centre yesterday.
The 11-year-old Kirby copped gold in all seven of the events he competed in. The pattern was established from early when the slimly built swimmer set records in his first three events, the 25 metres, Free, Back and Fly. Kirby not only added a record in the Breast, he also lowered his prelims times in all but the Free which was his first and warm-up race.
The girls’ title also remained with Charles F. Broome who held off a stiff challenge from St Angela’s, with Destiny Harding’s gold in the Free, Back, Fly and a second spot in the 50 Free helping to pilot the Government Hill school to 123 points, seven better than St  Angela’s. (KB)
