The last ball in FIFA’s bribery scandal hasn’t been kicked just yet.
And this time, one of the Caribbean’s former Prime Ministers has fallen victim.
Former Prime Minister of Dominica, Patrick John, a high ranking member of the Dominica Football Association, was banned for two years today by soccer’s world governing body. He was one of five CFU officials reprimanded.
Along with being prevented from taking part in any football-related activity, administrative, sports or any other, the former PM was also fined 6 600.
Today’s decision was made by the FIFA Ethics Commitee, chaired by Claudio Sulser of Switzerland, which had met in Zurich this week regarding the ethics proceedings that were opened in October against Caribbean Football Union (CFU) officials.
The further sanctions follow a number of decisions made by FIFA last month, following the scandal which rocked FIFA after it was revealed former Asian soccer Mohamed Bim Hammam of Qatar offered 40 000 to officials to vote for him during FIFA’s presidential elections held earlier this year. (BA)
