Prevention of diseases like hypertension, and diabetes is less costly than treatment.
Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Ross University, Dr Hedda Dyer, made that point yesterday as she urged more Barbadians to make the sacrifice and stay on top of their health.
“Some people may face challenges meeting the costs.
“I acknowledge that investing in healthcare for some is a sacrifice they have to make, particularly when you have family, and sometimes we leave ourselves last as parents, but you also need to be there for your family.
“So it’s very important that you take advantage of screening programmes that are available. Don’t wait for the silent disease to manifest itself . . . because the cost of treating a late stage disease is so much more expensive,” said Dyer. (TG)
