President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Verla De Peiza, wants to know how soon laid-off tourism workers will see the benefits of the Barbados Economic and Sustainable Transformation (BEST) programme.

She raised the query yesterday at DLP headquarters on George Street, St Michael, after she met with about 30 workers who she said were in the dark after they were sent home without pay earlier this year.

After a two-hour meeting, De Peiza questioned whether the National Insurance Scheme fast-track system under the BEST programme, or the oversight committee, was set up.

“If either of them has been set up, then we need to know, in relation to the fast-track, what are the time limits because we are dealing with people who are no longer employed and still have financial obligations and families to support, so they are anxious to receive their severance. (TG)
