In the midst of this pandemic, the uncertainties of local vs community spread, the vaccines, quarantine, tests and long wait for results, it’s good to know that some normal things remain normal. A great example is a father’s angst and anxiety about becoming a father for the first time. This month we continue The Dad-to-be Chronicles with a funny recount of medical visits and nosy people. To be honest, until this month’s cover story, I had never heard the term ‘widow maker’ in the context of heart disease. In researching the origin of the term, I found nothing conclusive to suit my query, but I observed that it is a very gendered term, since women also are affected. This magazine has always been a source of education, so read on and learn what it is.

Many people are rightfully sceptical about this new vaccine for the COVID-19 virus. There are well documented accounts of how many times vaccination was really just a trial, and how many thousands of people were vaccinated for one thing and it turned out to be for an entirely different (and usually dastardly) reason. I saw a social media post which gave me real pause.A guy quipped that cancer has been around for so long, the common cold been around for so long and none of these have a vaccine; so COVID-19 just arrived and already there is a vaccine…” Conspiracy theorists are sometimes right, but if we follow the science, keeping our humanity at the forefront, then we will not follow science blindly.

On a more positive note, we have included two articles to encourage you to a slow but steady start to optimum health. In one article is a suggestion of keeping a healthy eating journal, and in another there are suggestions for easy resolutions you can keep from week to week to improve your health, whatever your health status. February is called the ‘love month’ since Valentine’s Day is on the 14th, so give your body some love and feed it the right foods to get to or maintain optimum health.

Share with us your good health results from following these suggestions, and help keep our nation inspired to eat healthy.
