THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND (IMF) will not be directing what happens in the Barbados economy.
This was among the key positions of Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler as he met with the media yesterday following a tumultuous three weeks in which he fired the Governor of the Central Bank, fought off calls from the Opposition for his head, and pushed back on suggestions that the Barbados dollar was under threat due to low foreign reserve levels.
Speaking from Government Headquarters in Bay Street, The City, Sinckler defended the home- grown economic policy prescriptions, though he conceded that the pace of growth was slower than expected and the fiscal deficit was still “stubbornly” higher than desired.
He insisted that Prime Minister Freundel Stuart had spoken firmly to the issue of the IMF. (GE)
