MORE than $100 million in advances to finance ailing regional carrier LIAT have not been recorded on the books of Parliament.
The claim was made by Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Christopher Sinckler, who put the figure closer to $150 million when he tabled the Resolution on the Supplementary Estimates No.1 (2016-2017) in the Lower Chamber yesterday.
Making it clear that Government was not tabling a supplementary to finance LIAT, Sinckler said yesterday’s resolution was a bid to ensure that the advances to the airline that were previously incurred by the present administration were brought to book.
In terms of the outstanding $100 million, Sinckler charged that the former Barbados Labour Party-led administration advanced more than $70 million to LIAT from the Treasury of Barbados, none of which was approved in Estimates or allocations in Parliament. (SDB Media)
