THE TEACHER AT the centre of a violent encounter with a student at Ellerslie Secondary School early last term remains on sick leave.

President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, yesterday confirmed that the woman was still under doctor’s care.

“She has not been back in the classroom since the incident . . . . This whole matter took a toll on her. It did because she was vilified by some members of the public, who did not have the facts surrounding the issue.

“She had been traumatised physically and emotionally by the attack, and public comments from uninformed persons certainly did not help, and so she remains on sick leave, unable to return to the classroom,” Redman said.  (YB)
