Summer camp that’s different

CAMP ENERGY, organised by the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), is not the average summer camp.

The coordinators invited a select number of children associated with the Child Care Board to enjoy the camp’s summer activities. This year, 21 of the campers, out of a total of 71, came from the child care support organisation.

Camp counsellor, Able-Bodied Seaman Nicole Brathwaite, told the DAILY NATION: “Over the years I’ve found that some children come with certain attitudes; everybody has his or her own way. But we have found ways to curb this. For example, one of the issues we deal with is bullying and we have a special punishment in place.

“We would do it in a militant way while incorporating aspects of the Crop Over Festival. For example, the children like Bubble Pon Me (performed by Lady Essence and Mole). I would tell them bubble and they will say ish, but ish means put your finger on your lips,” she added, noting it was a way to get them keep quiet. (SB)
