STAFF OF THE Fair Trading Commission (FTC) have been thrown into shock with the sudden death this morning  of a top official of that quasi-judicial body.

Chief executive officer of the FTC Sandra Sealy confirmed to the NATION that Judy Maynard, the commission’s director of consumer protection was found unresponsive in the bathroom of the FTC’s Green Hill, St Michael office this morning.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene but Maynard was later pronounced dead.

According to relatives, the senior FTC official was a diabetic but an autopsy is to be performed to determine the cause of death.

One of the last major projects that Maynard worked on was an assessment of the challenges consumers faced with operators in the construction industry. During a session at the Accra Hotel last year, she reminded contractors that they had a duty to honestly fulfill their obligations to clients.

Maynard was the mother of two. (GE)
