HYPERTENSION has become such a problem in Barbados that the Diabetes Association of Barbados is adding that non-communicable disease to its portfolio.
And a name change for the association to reflect this is in the works.
This has been revealed by member of the Parent Support Group of the association, Clyde Parris, who said he was shocked when he saw the hypertension figures for Barbados.
“We are sitting at the top of the list on the question of hypertension and that suggests it’s becoming a huge problem in terms of NCDs [non-communicable diseases] in Barbados,” he said.
“So on the question of hypertension . . . the Barbados Diabetes Association has now taken hypertension as part of its mandate so in fact the name of the association will eventually be changed to include the whole matter of hypertension,” Parris said. (HLE)
