Beckles heading to Rio

KIERRE BECKLES has punched her ticket to Rio.

Barbados’ national record holder is going to the Olympics now after finally meeting the qualifying time in the women’s 110 hurdles at the ongoing National Championships in Athletics.

Running in tonight’s prelims at the National Stadium, Beckles looked smooth over the hurdles while winning the heat with a clocking of 12.97 seconds – just under the qualifying mark of 13.00.

Panamanian Yvette Lewis was second in 13.13 while collegiate multi event star Akela Jones came third with 13.19.

The final is slated for later in the night. (JM)
