ALMOST ONE YEAR after Government introduced the controversial tipping fee, Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC) is seeing a significant drop in the amount of waste being deposited there.
Chairman of the SBRC, Ralph “Bizzy” Williams, said it had fallen by roughly 500 tonnes a day.
“Financially, though, it is not hurting us. It does not make a bit of a difference to us because we have signed on a contract with the Government that we have to provide the facility to process 1 000 tonnes a day minimum.
“So whether the material comes or it does not come, that is what we signed on to,” he said yesterday at an open day at the SBRC’s Vaucluse, St Thomas, plant. (LK)
