Hell-hole

WENDY ALLEYNE is living in fear of her own home but help may soon be on the way.

She has already fallen through the floor and suffered a cut to her heel from a falling piece of galvanise and it may only be a matter of time before she or her eight-year-old daughter Donisha Knight is seriously hurt.

“Even before it was leaking, but after [Tropical Storm] Tomas in 2010 it get worse – the roof bad and the floor drop in and all the wood eaters [ants] in the wood. Last week I was inside and I took down a piece of board infested with wood eaters and a piece of galvanise fall down and cut me on my foot. The floor of my old bedroom fell in 2013 and I drop through the flooring. I hurt my back and went to the doctor,” she said

Alleyne said she had been living in her house, located in Phillips Road, Cleavers Hill, St Joseph, for more than 20 years. She pointed out the holes in the galvanised roof, the rotting board wall; the uneven and shifting floors and the outhouse and makeshift outside shower they use despite having functioning utilities.
