COLOMBO – Losing by an innings in three and a half days is unlikely to bring many plaudits but West Indies assistant coach, Sir Curtly Ambrose, is satisfied with his bowling attack’s display in the opening cricket Test loss to Sri Lanka last weekend in Galle.
Going in with a four-pronged pace posse and a sole spinner in Devendra Bishoo, West Indies dismissed the hosts for 484 before successive batting failures consigned the visitors to heavy defeat and a 0-1 deficit in the two-match rubber for the Sobers-Tissera Trophy.
“I thought that the bowlers bowled extremely well on a good batting pitch where there wasn’t much assistance for the fast bowlers,” Ambrose said yesterday as the side trained at the P. Sara Oval ahead of the second match beginning tomorrow.
“I thought they really stuck to the plan and were very, very consistent in the areas where we planned to bowl,” the pace legend added. “I thought they worked hard, created chances but, unfortunately, the catching let us down badly.”
