Fresh take for 50th

THE COMMUNITY INDEPENDENCE Celebrations will be reviewed and revamped in time for the 50th anniversary of Barbados’ Independence next year.

Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth Stephen Lashley told hundreds of people gathered at the Speightstown Esplanade, St Peter, on Saturday evening for the official launch of the 2015 celebrations that during the next few months, the Community Independence Secretariat would be involved in reviewing the programme along with input the parish committees. cassius-clay

“This is being done to ensure sustainability and to maintain the attractiveness of the programme. The review also comes in light of the regulatory framework brought about by the Cultural Development Industries Act and the increased focus on the cultural industries and their contribution to national development.” (LK)
