No food at UWI $334 000 affair

THERE WILL BE NO caviar and lobster tails and the ceremony to install Sir Hilary Beckles as vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI) certainly will not cost $1 million.

In a swift response yesterday to criticism from Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss that the cost of staging the “coronation” of “King Hilary” was excessive, the UWI said there was a significant cost to producing “a highly formal and dignified ceremony”.

It contended that the event was likely to cost around BDS$334 000.
