Four concrete slabs were yesterday dropped into the sea at Wharf Road in front of the two cavities which have opened up under the road.
Workmen from Edghill Associates, assisted by two divers, were busy yesterday putting the precast three-tonne slabs into place with the use of a crane.
Divers Carlos Waldron and Allan Bradshaw dived about 25 feet underwater, ensuring that the slabs were in the correct positions.
Edghill Associates director Gary Rogers told the WEEKEND?NATION?that the exercise was “very technical”.
He explained that more slabs were to be installed and then concrete would be pumped into the cavities.
Coastal engineer Guy Griffith said the work should last another three weeks.
That section of the Wharf Road has been closed to vehicular traffic for about a month now, following severe “undercutting” of the sea wall.
