BTA says Govt not to blame

Nearly half of the 33 containers of equipment needed for the Rihanna show were already in Barbados before the concert had to be called off.
That disclosure came from the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) which made it clear that there was nothing on the local end that caused the postponement of the Bajan superstar’s November 1 concert here.
It said challenges in getting equipment to Barbados, from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, in time to successfully complete construction of the stage for the Diamonds World Tour show were to blame and not Government, as reported in yesterday’s DAILY NATION.
“The BTA was the main facilitator between Government and Live Nation. As such, the BTA can categorically deny that there were attempts by certain Government departments to frustrate the importation of equipment for the show and the issuance of short-term work permits for technical teams associated with the show, as per reports being circulated on the Internet and/or social media sites,” it said in a paid advertisement in the Press yesterday.
