Director of the Commission for Pan African Affairs, Dr Deryck Murray, has been appointed Government’s liaison officer for the Nigerian educational programme following two weeks of controversy.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones made the announcement yesterday at a news conference at the ministry. He said Murray would liaise with the students and programme organiser Donna St Hill.
About 90 Nigerian students arrived in Barbados two weeks ago as part of Nigeria’s Delta State Youth Programme to undertake studies at the Barbados Community College (BCC). However, several disputes have arisen with the organiser, mainly over accommodation – an “unfortunate scenario”, according to Jones.
He explained that Murray would act as a go-between and would keep Government abreast of the progress of the programme.
