THE RUN IS DONE.
Barbados’ unbeaten home streak in Davis Cup tennis play is finally over.
So too is their first ever Group I tie against the Dominican Republic, as Darian King and Haydn Lewis both heartbreakingly lost today’s reverse singles at the National Tennis Centre.
Clinging to a 2-1 lead entering a shockingly still day, King first fell to world No. 56 Victor Estrella 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 before Lewis dropped an agonisingly tough 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 result against Jose Hernandez to complete the visitors’ valiant comeback.
The defeat ended a string of five straight successful ties at home for the Bajan lads, who now await the next draw to find out where their relegation tie against Uruguay will be played. (JM)
