Wins for Walrond, Holder and Moore

IT WAS nothing but sheer class when the second annual Touch Of Class Frieda Nicholls Women’s Tournament was served off at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Tennis Centre in Bush Hall on Monday night.

With a total prize of $5 800 and trophies on offer for A class, doubles and novices and patron Nicholls on the sidelines enjoying the exchanges, defending A class champion Kim Holder showed her intentions early with a powerful dismissal of Carlyn “The Model” Haynes 21-12, 21-14.

However, the match of the night which thrilled the large crowd on hand was undoubtedly the battle between Carlyn’s daughter Abigail Haynes and the attacking Sheldene Walrond. Returning to action after almost ten years, Haynes showed why she was the last person to defeat Holder.
