THE NATIONAL UNION of Public Workers’ (NUPW) protest action will move to phase two tomorrow.
At a meeting today at the NUPW Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters, president Akanni McDowall called all shop stewards, divisional members, divisional leaders and councillors to a meeting at 2 p.m. at the same venue.
“This is not the last phase of the action taken. We have phase three, phase four and phase five to come,” McDowall said.
Hundreds of public workers took to the streets today in protest against policies of the Democratic Labour Party Government. It comes after 13 workers were given early retirement from the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC).
They were joined by general secretary Toni Moore and members of the Barbados Workers Union, Mary Redman of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union, Cedric Murrell and others from the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados.
The protest started at Queen’s Park and made a loop through The City before travelling up Broad Street and, lower Collymore Rock and Culloden Road to Dalkeith.
During one of the stops along the route, Moore said the protest about more than the dismissal of the 13 workers, but trade unions the world over were under threat. (MB)
