HUNDREDS WERE ON the outside as Barbados experienced its fourth earth tremor in less than five hours today.
As klaxons blared, people hurriedly evacuated businesses and stores in the island’s capital and engaged in animated conversation about the effects of the 6.4 magnitude quake that was also felt as far as Guyana.
One Courts Barbados employee said the first thought that came to mind was the Brittons Hill (Cave-in) tragedy and his first instinct was to flee the building.
Officials at the Department of Emergency Management are warning Barbadians to brace themselves as there is the possibility of aftershocks.
Meanwhile, the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies said the quakes which occurred to the north east of Barbados today were not unusual.
Officials there say the Eastern Caribbean is seismically active and will continue to experience earthquakes into the future. (HLE)
