A TRADE UNION LEADER has accused the Government of engaging in action that has the potential to break up the Social Partnership.

President of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Akanni McDowall, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday evening he was taken aback when he learnt that the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) had gone ahead and filed an action in the High Court yesterday on the BIDC matter, when it had agreed not to do so during the last meeting of the subcommittee of the Social Partnership.

“We sat and agreed to that and a number of other things and it is now clear that the Government is reneging on them one after the other,” McDowall said.

“And that is why we have been calling for the urgent reconvening of the subcommittee so these matters can be clarified.”
