Heroes welcome for Special Olympians

DOZENS THRONGED THE arrival area at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Monday night to welcome home the triumphant Special Olympics team from the World Games in Los Angeles.

Barbados captured eight gold, five silver and four bronze individual medals along with team medals in football and the relays.

The official party of acting CEO of the Gymnasium, Jerry Blenman, Deputy Director of Sports Neil Murrell, Assistant Director of Sports Mona Alleyne and Barbados Olympic Association general manager Glyne Clarke were almost caught in a crush as dozens of family members and fans swarmed forward as the medal-bearing team exited the arrival hall.
