CAR RENTAL COMPANIES had a bumper Crop Over season, but many visitors who tried to secure their own transportation were disappointed.

Some of the island’s largest companies, including one with a fleet of more than 300 vehicles, reported having to turn to small operators for assistance to satisfy the requests for hired cars. But their efforts were futile.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, yesterday cited the high transportation demand to satisfy the Crop Over traffic as a barometer by which the travelling needs of the thousands of visitors expected in Barbados later this year should be measured.
