AN EVACUATION centre for almost a week, the Dominica Grammar School had just been turned into a church for a service of thanksgiving.
Tropical Storm Erika had brought these Caribbean people together, and they were all sharing in its experience.
From the makeshift pulpit leading to the back door, more than 300 residents rescued from the creole village of Petite Savanne were crammed into a classroom, their eyes closed, their prayers steady, thankful for their lives, and asking to be spared of future lashes from Mother Nature.
In the midst, six Barbadian men held hands with those Dominicans, listening to the sermon of Rev. Randy Rodney, before sharing hugs, handshakes and kisses.
