THE THIRD EDITION of the Barbados Winter Jockey Challenge on Ansa Mcal Racing Festival Raceday turned out to be not much of a challenge for the victorious Team Barbados last Saturday in front a sizeable crowd at the Garrison Savannah.

The team of captain Reshawn Latchman, Anderson Trotman, Rickey Walcott, Antonio Whitehall and Jarelle Beckles led from the start and never looked back, romping across the line with 71 points to Team International’s 43.

With the scores locked at one win apiece going into the Barbados Turf Club’s first day of its final racing season, racing enthusiasts expected keen competitive competition. But Team International of captain Jamie Spencer, Tom Queally, Paul Mulrennan, Sammy Jo Bell and Christopher Griffith struggled against their aggressive opponents.

Trailing by 40 points going into the final race, Team International required nothing less than a thorough sweep of the Standard Distributors Jockey Challenge Trophy Handicap over 1 100 metres to lift the title. (LY)
