IN THE SPACE of just five hours yesterday, a crack team of workers from the Ministry of Transport and Works’ (MTW) Haggatts, St Andrew depot virtually eliminated more than a year of misery for residents of White Hill in the same parish.

With two pieces of heavy earth-moving equipment and a determination to end the access challenges that were caused by a huge landslide in November 2014, the dozen odd workers worked through the day without even a lunch break to carve out what will be a new temporary access to more than 100 homes.

Supervisor Wendel Patrick explained that the team was so determined to get the job done quickly and with as little inconvenience to the residents that when Barbados Water Authority (BWA) personnel had not arrived by the time they were ready to get going, they simply moved the pipe themselves and got on with the job.

Scores of residents who had suffered much inconvenience by having to walk a considerable distance over a dangerous 100-metre stretch of broken road that had been made impassible to all vehicles kept a close watch on every action.
