A ST MICHAEL gas station had to undergo emergency repairs yesterday after a freak accident in which a sports utility vehicle was driven through its glass and into its stocked shelves.

The accident took place at the Sol Banyans station on Bay Street around 11 p.m. Sunday and while no one was injured, the damage was enough to force the temporary closure of the facility.

Staff members were seen sweeping up glass yesterday, mopping the floor and trying generally to get the store ready again for business.

A statement from Sol said officials were “working with the relevant service providers to restore the site to its full operations. Service to customers at the pump has resumed. It is expected however that the store will be reopened by 3 p.m. [yesterday]”.

Police public relations officer, Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch, identified the driver of the vehicle as 56-year-old Shurland Boyce.
