STUDENTS AND STAFF of the Lawrence T Gay Primary School were again this morning forced to conduct classes outside of the classroom as a result of an ongoing environmental problem.

Moments after 9:30 am, students could be seen gathering around trees on the school compound with chairs in hand, as staff waited to discuss how the situation would be handled.

This environmental problem was a repeat situation from last year when the school was closed in November. At that time, staff and students complained of running eyes and itchy skin.

While the school principal Beverley Parris declined to comment, President of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Pedro Shepherd called for the situation to be quickly resolved and also made the call for air quality tests to be undertaken to reassure those affected there were no possible long term effects.
