THE USE OF video evidence for law enforcement seems poised to take on a more significant role.
In the past the local judiciary had avoided the use of videos because of a lack of facilities but with monitors available in every court at the Supreme Court, judges can approve the use of videos.
Director of Public Prosecutions Charles Leacock told the SUNDAY SUN that such evidence had been used in about four criminal cases.
“In theory the court can use that evidence. The court would have to decide if the video is authentic and genuine and it would fall within the discretion of the court to accept it if it is more probative than prejudicial,” he said.
