THERE WAS NO fanfare and hardly a hint of excitement around the Parliament Buildings yesterday as Barbadians awaited the presentation of the 2016 Budgetary Proposals and Financial Statement.
Ten people stood outside the Parliament gates, mainly supporters of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP), looking on quietly as elected representatives of the two political parties rolled in one after another and made their way up the long flight of stairs.
Amidst the din of Bridgetown’s normal afternoon noise, a blaring police siren signalled the arrival of Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler just about ten minutes before the scheduled 4 p.m. start of his presentation.
Dapperly dressed in a blue suit with matching shirt, stylishly complemented with a gold tie and carrying a leather satchel containing the Budget, Sinckler stopped briefly at the base of the steps leading to Parliament to have a boutonniere pinned by St Stephen’s Primary School prefect James Forde.
