DON’T BLAME the violence and crime among young people on the education system.

This is the position of Minister of Education Ronald Jones, a day after Cabinet colleague Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite said he was convinced that one of the reasons for deviancy among youth was that “they were pushed through the education system and no one took time to work out what issues they had”.

Jones, in defending his ministry, said the education system in Barbados had been diversified over the last few years to ensure everyone had a chance to benefit from educational and developmental pursuits.

“Thus, it could not be blamed for the violence and crime among young people,” he added. (LK)
