Members of staff at the Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School should at this time be meeting with officials of the Ministry of Education Technological and Vocational Training.
The meeting was set to get underway at 1:30 p.m. today in the Main Conference Room at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St Michael, to discuss ongoing environmental issues at the school.
This morning, the Ministry closed the Spooner’s Hill, St Michael institution “to allow authorities to put measures in place to seek to identify the source of wind-blown irritants affecting staff and students”.
Last term, officials from the Ministry of Labour, the Environmental Health Department and the Warrens Polyclinic visited Lawrence T. Gay Primary and engaged the staff and students who had complained of itchy skin and burning eyes, a release said.
The Ministry of Education also conducted several air quality tests around the compound, but the discomfort to some staff members and students continued this term.
On Monday, the school was closed due to a low turnout of teaching staff.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Education says it will continue to work with the Ministries of Health and Labour to address the situation to ensure the wellbeing of all staff and students and apologised to all affected by the closure. (PR/SAT)
