50% of traffic offences by PSVs

THEY ONLY MAKE UP ONE PER CENT of the vehicle population on the roads but public service vehicles (PSVs) are responsible for more than 50 per cent of the traffic offences committed annually.

This was revealed by Station Sergeant Rodney Inniss, the police traffic expert, who also sits on the board of the Transport Authority.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday Inniss revealed: “From our traffic data we have had over 25 000 offences annually.

“The public service vehicles represent less than one per cent of the amount of vehicles on the roads of Barbados but yet they account for more than 50 per cent of traffic offences islandwide.

There are only 500 PSVs plying routes and Inniss said this had been so “for a very long time”.
