ENTERTAINER GEORGE JONES will never forget Sunday, March 13, 2016. It was the day he beat the odds, again. Two years earlier he found out he was cancer free, on this occasion he no longer had to depend on a dialysis machine.

The founding member and guitarist with the defunct band Square One had a successful kidney transplant which he expects will make his life better. It also means now 47-year-old Jones has a fully functioning kidney he no longer needs to spend 15 hours a week hooked up to a machine.

“It will give me the freedom to live a normal life, make me employable and significantly improve my quality of health and life. I can now travel without having to make advanced dialysis preparations and it saves me the major treatment expenses,” Jones said.

The musician said he was first diagnosed with kidney problems after he found out he had chronic hypertension. But unaware that “my blood pressure was so high it had already started to damage the kidneys and I was advised that I would eventually end up on dialysis”. (TG)
