Speightstown ‘revisited’

IT WAS THE best of times; it was the worst of times.

However, this tale is not of two cities, only one – Speightstown.

Last Thursday, businessman Austin Husbands was featured in the MIDWEEK NATION after he threw in the towel on La Bouche Wine Bar and Restaurant after five years of operation, citing lack of human traffic, the high cost of rent and the lack of ideas to revive the town once known as Little Bristol.

It looked like yet another nail in the coffin many say Speightstown is already in but the truth is a little different as Mark Daghorn is not only reporting life but growth as well.

“We opened Juma’s Restaurant three years ago and we’ve found business has been increasing year after year and even month after month. On Sundays we are packed – we have a live band and a barbeque and loads of tourists come to eat,” he said.

Please read the full story in today’s Midweek Nation, or in the eNATION edition.
