AT 100 YEARS OLD, Olga Martin is still getting well wishes for a longer life.
It is a testament to the Kendall Hill, Christ Church resident’s good life as many relatives, friends and well-wishers congregated at her home, wishing her many more years today.
Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave, who shared a toast with the island’s latest centenarian and extended best wishes, said to see her surrounded by all of the members of family – some of whom travelled from abroad – spoke to the type of character and person Olga was in her younger days and the manner in which she treated her children.
While Sir Elliott’s regretted that Martin was not as articulate as before and could not engage in conversation about her life, he said her age was a milestone.
“When you reach 100 years that is a remarkable milestone and if she is not so good at this moment one can understand,” he said.
Eight of Olga’s ten children are still alive, and some of them attended the celebration, including her eldest daughter Eileen Evelyn, who is 84 years old. (LK)
