Smoke forces staff to evacuate Belleville building

Staff working in a George Street, Belleville, St Michael building were reportedly forced to evacuate this evening.

One worker in The Pheonix Centre said smoke was seen coming from an air conditioning unit around 4 p.m.

Staff were said to have calmly exited the offices before calling the Barbados Fire Service.

At 5:15 p.m. two fire tenders were still on the scene.

The building houses LIAT’s commercial office and at least two other tenants. (NB)
