Sorry for trying to ruin her life

This letter is in response to last week’s article Policewoman Feels Pressure From Males.
??I ALSO AM a policewoman and have been in the Royal Barbados Police Force for more than ten years. It makes me laugh to see how some of these women think the organization is a bed of roses.
I met another female like her who joined the force after me, and when she would not give in to the advances from our male colleagues, as I and other women who joined after me did, we set out to destroy her credibility, and it worked.
The reason I am writing this is that maybe if she reads it, she will see how sorry I am for my actions.
You see, now that I have a child and a family, I am beginning to regret the evil I did to other people. But I regret this one the most.
I hated everything this woman stood for. The only thing we had together was music, and by my actions I drove her from being here with the others. We all ganged up on her and enlisted other females from other departments to interfere with her constantly. Though she was a fighter, she always held her peace. Once, in front others, I made threats to kill her, but because she reported the guys for sexually harassing her, nothing was ever done to bring her justice.
The only thing that matters in this organization is how to break a would-be goody-two-shoes like she was.
When we were living loose with the other men, she tried not to get involved with them. We spied on her and those who showed interest in her. We made sure they heard a lot of nasty, untrue stories about her.
I even tracked down her boyfriend, and me and my crew spun some wicked, untruthful rumours about her. I even sent many women to lead him astray.
We sourced his telephone number and called him constantly. We made him miserable with calls and texts. We even befriended him on Facebook and the idiot accepted.
I do not know why some men are not satisfied with what they have. She is a good woman and I hated her for it. She proved that you did not have to sleep around to get by in here. I had to make her pay because of that.
Eventually, her boyfriend slept with one of us and I made sure she found out about it, just to hurt her. I was successful in breaking up their relationship. I watched her or sent my spies to monitor her through this ordeal, but she kept her smile on and never showed the world how much pain she was in. I hated her even more.
When she got the chance, she transferred out of the force, but I made sure to find out where she was going and planted seeds about her which germinated to my delight. People never gave her a chance.
One downside of the police force is that it is easy to destroy someone’s character, especially if they keep to themselves. I turned many women against her. There was a time she spoke out about being harassed by my male colleagues and I took up the fire-rage to destroy her and helped the men to destroy her. I turned the younger females against her.
I even turned folks at her church against her.
I was satisfied when I heard she left the church, and when she became pregnant, I planted many stories about her that made it hard for her superiors to be kind to her. I made sure her pregnancy at work was full of misery.
What made me reflect on this was the recent death of a relative. I realized that if I had spent less time trying to destroy people and more time taking care of the ones I loved, I would not be filled with so much regret.
I can never undo the damage I did to this woman’s integrity and character, but I want to say this to her: I am sorry for the pain I caused you. As a woman, I should have stood with you when you decided that you would not give in to the many advances of our male colleagues. I hope one of these days you will find it in your heart to forgive me. Sorry, ex-band girl.
