It’s the worst Christmas gift the tourism industry could get.
That’s how president of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association, Sunil Chatrani, described the natural gas shortage plaguing the West Coast, which resulted in top flight restaurants being forced to close or reduce their intake this festive season.
He said it could not have happened at a worse possible time as hotels were filled with hundreds of guests who came here specifically to enjoy a Barbadian Christmas with a unique cuisine, and added that their inability to do this was a tremendous blow to the island’s reputation.
“Remember, the guests on our island are not aware, and quite frankly do not have to care, what the problem is. They’re booked for a Christmas meal and expect to have the best service,” Chatrani said.
